本片是汤姆汉克斯早期作品，改编自法国喜剧片《大惊奇》。汤姆汉克斯饰演一名小提琴家，被同在乐团服务的朋友作弄以致穿著一只红鞋出现在机场，却因这个「怪异的举动」被数国情报局当成目标，大家在他背后暗自盘算了许多策略，却都意外地没对他造成伤害，反而还使他和美丽的女情报员因此坠入情网。此时一直和他暗通款曲的友人之妻想尽办法要和他偷情，让友人也被牵连进复杂的情形中.....Cooper, the deputy director of the CIA, wants to be the director. So, he tries to make it appear that the director is corrupt so that he will resign or be removed. The director appears before a committee and asks for some time to prepare his defense. The director goes home and asks his man Brown to join him. He then shows Brown that Cooper is bugging him. That's when he decides to turn the tables on Cooper by feeding him some false information. And that information is that there's a man, who might be able to clear him of the charges against him, will be arriving at the airport, so he tells Brown to meet him. The Director tells Brown to just pick someone who is arriving at the airport thus making Cooper believe that he is the man who can help the director. Brown picks Richard cause he is wearing mismatched shoes, one of them being red.
