戦後50年を迎えようとする沖縄を舞台に、地上戦を生き延びた女性(宮里房)と、彼女を訪ねて来た、米兵と結婚してアメリカに渡った娘の子供(ジョージ)の対話を通して戦争の悲惨さと一家のわだかまりの融解を描いた映画。The film starts with an American man of Okinawan descent arriving in Okinawa to meet his maternal grandmother for the first time. The Grandmother eventually tells him the story of the Okinawan people who sheltered in caves during the war. GAMA means cave in Okinawan dialect. The film highlights tensions between mainland Japanese and Ryukyu people which are still relevant today.
